BOGONG HIGH PLAINS ROAD

In 2009, we had a major involvement with a project run by Parks Victoria to upgrade the visitor facilities on the Bogong High Plains in the region adjacent to Falls Creek within the Alpine National Park. The work was undertaken in conjunction with the $10m project to seal the section of the Bogong High Plains Road linking Falls Creek with the Mitta Valley.

As part of their contribution to this project, Parks Victoria undertook to upgrade the quality of a suite of park entry nodes located along the newly sealed road. These upgrade works also paralleled the development of a major new iconic walking product on the High Plains with the establishment of the Wallaces Heritage Trail linking Wallace and Cope Huts along an existing and well utilised track network that embraced sections of the Australian Alps Walking Track.

Our work on this project actually commenced with us producing the interpretive signage for this new walking track product. We were then successful in a separate tender in being commissioned to undertake the conceptual precinct design work and signage design work required for the series of nodes along the newly sealed road section. Our work on this major design project required us to take the signage design process through to print ready artwork while the landscape responses were conceptual only. Parks Victoria then used these concepts to have the detailed landscape design and structural plans drawn up ready for a staged implementation of actual works.
