The familiar scene of a visitor taking a photo of the map in a trailhead orientation sign has taken on a new life since both Apple and Android cameras have been able to read QR codes directly.

Now as people take their photo, they may (depending upon their camera default settings) be prompted to download a link to a supporting smartphone PDF guide. A promotional statement on the sign also reinforces this opportunity.

This easily downloaded PDF guide can then be saved across to a PDF reader app on their phone or tablet (e.g. iBooks) for use in areas remote from internet coverage.

It gives them access not just to the map on display, but also toan extended array of other tracknotes and supporting infomration managers may wish to provide users.
